Dr. Pence decided to pursue a career in hospitalist medicine, which focuses on the treatment of patients who have been hospitalized, because he enjoys the ability to practice comprehensive internal medicine within an inpatient setting.

Dr. Pence specializes in caring for patients with kidney problems and a wide variety of internal conditions, including:
• Diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases
• Electrolyte disturbances and hypertension
• Acid-base disorders
• Nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)

He has special professional interests in:
• Nephrology (renal failure and other issues)
• Electrolyte disorders
• Substance abuse

Patient Care Philosophy: Dr. Pence take an integrated medicine approach to patient care. The term "integrative" means bringing together modern medicine and complementary healing and health practices, so the patient benefits from both.
