Mission Physician Awarded National Fellowship for Senior Care

Dr. Christina McQuiston has been selected as one of ten Fellows in the nation to participate in The Practice Change Fellows program aimed at building leadership capacity among nurses, physicians and social workers who have operational responsibility for geriatric care. The Practice Change Fellows program is funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies, to create a network of specialists dedicated to influencing health care delivery and improving the health of older adults.

Dr. McQuiston is Medical Director of Mission's Senior Services Department, as well as a physician with the Asheville Hospitalist Group, which provides care for patients at Mission during their hospitalization. The Fellowship program will enable McQuiston to work with other Fellows across the country to share best geriatric practices as well as innovative ideas in care for older adults. McQuiston will apply geriatric best practices to a pilot Geriatric Hip Fracture Program designed to ensure that all geriatric patients with hip fractures consistently receive this standardized plan of care. Many of these geriatric practices can evolve into standards of care across the hospital wherever elderly patients are admitted.
